The Reading Room
When you arrive, the scent of musty books and vellum fills your senses, a gentle warmth of light flickering from the torches that adorn the walls on either side of a series of archways. Below your feet, a circular glaes panel framed in rune-etched oak slowly fades into silence, its once swirling portal undulating tones of twilight blue and crimson now nothing but dark glaes. To your left you see another circular glaes panel, but its frame is wildly ornate oak that seems to shift and roil about itself, the swirling portal of silver-sparked twilight blue constantly billowing - the image of a large academy flickering in and out of existence.
The octagonal room you find yourself in is filled with small tables and chairs which have been provided for your comfort as you peruse the books housed within the walls of this massive library. Several Elven and Erithian scholars occupy some of the tables as they pore over stacks of books before them. A young Half-Elven librarian sits at a desk near the entrance reading over some notebooks, but her eyes occasionally dart around the room, watching for anyone in need of assistance. Standing before her desk is an owl-carved ebonwood book podium; an ancient-looking tome rests above a lacquered vellum placard reading "Current Officer Dossiers".
Every wall of the room hosts a single elaborate archway, each illuminated with a pair of wrought iron scones and glimmering threads of energy that coalesce into words when you look at them over the apex. You see "Elanthian History", "Magical Research", "Letters, Missives and Personal Accounts", "Twilight Hall", "Adventures of the Gods", and "Miscellaneous Works".
A small oak door engraved with a riot of highly detailed tarts in a prism of colors sits opposite a mistwood door, brilliant magic swirls into the words "Curator's Office" as you focus on the door. Alternately, deep viridian magic threads through white mist to form the words "Historian's Office" over a crescent-carved smooth mistwood door, an arched opening made from weeping haon saplings framing it as white mist lingers around their roots.
